NBCF Featured in a Hollywood Film

Last February, National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) was contacted by a representative from the Script Clearances Department at Sony Pictures. Marc Lawrence, Director of Miss Congeniality and Music and Lyrics, was interested in featuring NBCF in a scene related to one of his upcoming films, Did You Hear About The Morgans? featuring Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant. Did You Hear About the Morgans? follows a highly successful Manhattan couple, Meryl and Paul Morgan (Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant), whose almost-perfect lives have only one notable failure – their dissolving marriage. But the turmoil of their romantic lives is nothing compared to what they are about to experience: they witness a murder and become targets of a contract killer. The Feds, protecting their witnesses, whisk away their beloved New York to a tiny town in Wyoming, and a relationship that was on the rocks threatens to end completely in the Rockies…unless, in their new BlackBerry-free lives, the Morgans can slow down the pace and rekindle the passion.

In one of the early scenes of the film, Sarah Jessica Parker’s character attends a NBCF charity gala, where she gives a rousing fundraising speech. Filmed at the Mandarin Oriental Ballroom in New York City, the scene features NBCF’s name, logo, and banners throughout the set. NBCF Founders, Neal and Janelle Hail, COO Kevin Hail, and his wife Amanda are also featured as extras and can be seen sitting at the banquet table with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character as she prepares to address the gala audience.

Incredibly, the evening before the shooting of the charity gala scene, the NBCF executive staff was also invited on set to observe the outdoor murder scene, one of the film’s most pivotal scenes. As water trucks were brought in to create rain, the staff was able to watch Director Marc Lawrence in action. During a break in the shot, Janelle asked Marc Lawrence, “Why did you choose NBCF?” He replied, “I wrote it into the script because I wanted to do some good by benefitting a real charity.”
