Country for the Cause Charity Auction Nets $10K
DALLAS, TX (May 24, 2004) - The National Breast Cancer Foundation is proud to announce its latest charity drive, Country for the Cause, has raised nearly $10,000 to fund mammograms for low-income, uninsured and impoverished women across the nation. The auction ran May 3-16, on eBay.com.
The Foundation wishes to extend its deepest thanks to the many individuals who bid on merchandise and helped make the auction a huge success. Of course none of this would have been possible without the generous contributions by the more than 30 Country-music stars that came forward to help with this great cause.
Artists such as Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, Reba McEntire and George Strait all contributed autographed guitars, apparel and limited-edition items to help fund the auction. It was McBride's autographed guitar, however, that brought the auction's highest bid. With a winning bid of $1,000, one lucky, charity-minded fan took home McBride's guitar and helped further the cause.
The foundation also would like to thank its partners in the media for helping to spread the word. Syndicated radio shows Lia, After MidNite with Blair Garner, The Ben & Brian Countdown and The Jeff Foxworthy Countdown all worked hard to make the auction a success. NBCF is a nonprofit, charitable foundation that has funded mammography and early detection programs since 1991. The Foundation also funds breast cancer research, though its main focus is on saving lives through early detection, especially among women with little or no access to health care.
