For more than 25 years, the American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) has been developing and encouraging international cooperation among physicians and researchers in the fight against cancer. The Foundation continues to sponsor international oncology conferences, give fellowships to outstanding young scientists and fund innovative cancer research projects. In their quest to help prevent breast cancer, AICF's Free Mobile Mammography Program visited 265 community sites in 2006 and screened a total of 6,059 medically underserved women.
"Every time we attend a community health fair, visit a church group, or pass out materials at a neighborhood event, we are spreading the message within underserved communities that breast cancer is not something to be feared and avoided, but rather a disease that can be effectively treated if detected early. The American-Italian Cancer Foundation and the hundreds of underserved women whose lives have been directly improved through your grant funds are deeply grateful."Esther Dyers, Executive Director
