O.k. saw the specialist today...was really freaky. The nurse asked me to take my blouse off but keep my bra on...HA! When I told her I didn't wear one because I didn't have breasts...she freaked out a bit and I heard her ask the doctor in the hall what to do. The doc was quite intrigued with my chest...said my scars looked awsome and even told me I looked beautiful, which was nice...but he thinks possibly some nerves were effected and I have to do a Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Study on Monday. It is supposed to measure the electrical activity of muscles and the speed and intensit of electrical signals traveling along nerves. He told me it was uncomfortable, kind of painful. Was wondering if anyone had this....I had enough of pain, but he insists I have these tests. I do have to go to therapy because of a muscle that is effected from the mastectomy and reconstruction. I can't remember the name.....but he said it was the primary muscle that connects the breast wall and the arm.
If anyone had this nerve test, please let me know. I will keep you informed. It is strange, but I did not feel embarrassed or vain about pulling up my blouse today and showing me scars. The doctor had a hard time seeing my long incisions and said he though my P.S. did an awsome job. I get my 2nd fill next week....Yippee. Electro shock and a fill in 24 hours!!!!
Hope all is well and will keep you informed. Write me if you have nerve or arm problems. As always....Prayers for all of you.
Laura

It's not swelling either. My hand is numb in between my index finger & my thumb. My thumb is entirely numb. My arm is totally weak and the area on the outside of my arm right above my elbow and 4 inches higher is also completely numb. I can't stand how limited the movement is. The numbness feels like my hand is sleeping and my arm. Let me know if you have found any good exercises : )
My prayer are with you! ~SherryI am 8 days out of a lumpectomy, the lump was on my left breast closest to the very middle of my chest. They took out my sentinel nose &my left axillary node. They were clear. I was writing because even though my surgery seems pretty minor compared to what I have read about other going through - I am getting the arm troubles. It's not swelling either. I'll keep you informed to let you know if my personal therapy is helping.
Thanks for you thoughts.
LauraYa know...I am canceling my EMG needle test for a while. I started "my own" therapy and it seems to be helping. I don't think I am in the mood for any more needle pain issues for a while. I figure, let me do my thing for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't get better...then I will see the NEEDLE MAN. I haven't heard of very many people who have had this sort of problem after mastectomy.
I have long term issues with my chest/shoulder/arm, but that is mainly because of scads of rads. It has gotten better with time.
Please let us know how the test goes.
