Treatment Options

by Beaulahd on 5/3/2008 at 9:28 amin category Tell Your Story
I was diagnosed in Dec 2007 with stage 1 aggresive breast cancer, my hormones where negitive and am HER 2+ and no lymph node involvement. I had a lumpectomy with Mammosite targeted radiation and have completed chemotherapy. My previous Oncologist told me that would be the end of treatment and I would do follow ups every 3 months and now last Friday my Oncologist who by the way I thought was great had to leave his practice due to a emergency and now they have assigned me a new Oncologist who now says I need to have more treatment with Taxol once a week for 12 weeks and Herceptin once every 2 weeks for a year. My question is that the more I read about the Taxol I am not sure if it will benefit me as I did not have the cancer spread to my lymph nodes or matasisized to other areas...I did not tolerate chemo well at all before and am scared to do it again...Does anyone have any advise or words of wisdom for me?

If you do not feel comfortable with your oncologist try another. If you do not tolerate chemo you do not have to take it. it is your body and you know best. Yes. Taxol can be very hard on the body..everyone is different in their reception of chemo.
