SOOOOOOOO TIRED

by pickles on 5/8/2008 at 7:42 amin category Tell Your Story
Well next week I start on my third round of chemo and I am soooooooo tired. The first time I did chemo I got headache really bad so they decreased my steriods and that has helped. But this time it has really wiped me out. But one good thing about it is I haven't really been nausautated(not spelled right). But I have slept for days. I have to be woke up to drink water. It took me 4 hrs. to eat a pudding cup. I go for chemo every two weeks instead of every three weeks. My chemo is called AC. Which is doxorubicin and cyclophorous.

I did three week treatments of that 4 of them and i didnt get sick either the steroids made me eat everything in the house though and i couldnt sleep. I stayed up for some times 2 days at a time because of the steroids. I would be throwing steaks in a pan at 4 am just to get the people in the house up with me. ( it worked) i was just so damn brain dead and felt retarded on it couldnt rem anything and the mouth sores and throat sores were bad, dont worry the a/c will prob be the hardest on u. otu of all the chemos..the nurse told me u should be using the bathroom every 45 minutes the first 3 days after chemo not flushing your kidneys is not helping. I drank lots of gatoraid and if u r not eating get some insures..u will feel alot better if u drink drink and drink..love and support Wanda

I also did the two week treatment program and felt tired all the time. Sleeping seemed not to help. I did find that if I did keep moving through the tired feeling I actually felt better. Rest but try and get a little exercise to each day. Have they been giving you any of the shots that keep your counts up? The one that is for keeping your white count up, which I recieved every treatment, gave me extreme aches from my mid chest range up to my neck and jaw, and then eventually gave me a headache for two/three days. I found the shot worse than the chemo. When my red count dropped, I actually had trouble sleeping and that shot worked great with no reactions.
If you are taking anti nausia medication every six hours or so that also will make you sleepy also. You mentioned waking up to drink water. How much? Try and drink as much water as possible. Staying hydrated will help your body to function better and also flush your system out quicker.
Just think by doing it every two weeks you will done sooner.
Good Luck

oh yes the fatigue...I recall those days. I would sleep and sleep and sleep and not feel rested. that is the chemo really working and killin' them cancer cells! Plus having the treatment every 2 wks,it hardly gives your body time to recoup as if it were 3.
You're doing great! you're one step closer to being done and going on with a wonderful life...
(((hugs )))
