This may be long - Sorry....
Hi I am brand new to the board. I am 38 and went for a routine mammo last friday the 2nd of May. It is a diagnostic mammo as I have very large fibrocystic breasts. I have had 2 prior mammos(both negative). Well, I went back in 3 times that day for more views/mammos. They then took me for an ultrasound in the next room...and after told me they would call the doctor with recommendations. This is friday at 12:18 pm and my doctor closes at noon on fridays! So I tried not to stress, but I did...
I called my doctor Monday am first thing and she says that I have microcalcifications in the right breast and that they were sending me for an MRI...and possibly a biopsy.
So...Iget on the internet and see that calcifications do not typically show up on MRI's ....Where am I at here?? Should I even be on this site?? and as I would be happy to hear an "all clear" next thursday, I am wondering if I should be satisfied with an all clear??. I am kind of wondering why I am getting an MRI and not just a biopsy. Or am I WAY too far ahead of myself here?? Personally just the thought of breast cancer makes me just want to get a mastectomy, as I am uncomfortable with my large breasts to begin with- this just makes me resent them more.

By the way...Microcalcifications are not always cancer. If they are, it is usually the earliest of breast cancer, so take a breath and wait for the biopsy results.I had microcalcifications...MRI and it was clear...Biopsy showed Cancer. Insist on a biopsy. I know it seems scary right now, but get the biopsy first and then deal with it. You can ask me anything. I am 12 weeks post double mast. DCIS and ILC. I will try to help you the best I can. I have a lot of knowledge from all the research, this site and my docs. I will pray for you....You will be fine. Laura By the way...Microcalcifications are not always cancer.
