a/c then taxol

by sherrinp on 5/10/2008 at 1:24 pmin category Tell Your Story
Hello! Anyone had horrible nausea and neutropenia on a/c and done fabulous on taxol? Looking for less or no nausea and a little bone pain that I can deal with. Just wanted some feedback from someone that had had a difficult time on a/c then could tell me how they did on the taxol. I go in for the first of 4 taxols if my bloodwork has improved since Monday. My WBCs were zero so I look for some improvement in that!
Having a very difficult time at the end of the a/c and hoping for some light at the end of the tunnel and hoping to be more functional through the taxol.
Thanks to anyone who would like to respond!
Sherri

Hi Sherri, Taxol has been a breeze for me. AC was more strenuous, but I handled it well, even though I lost several days to sleep through it. The nausua meds did all I needed. I have my 4th and last taxol tomorrow and look forward to getting this as it is hopefully doing what it is supposed to do! The first time I had it, the bendryl was more a pain than the taxol. Keep positive and keep your eyes on the prize!! I am achy, but hey, that is fine. It doesn't slow me down a bit. Good luck. -Lee

Hi Sherri,
Taxol was a breeze compared with A/C. I suffered some aches, but no nausea. I reacted to the treatment so they gave me extra benadryl and steroids, which one, made me very sleepy after treatment and two, put on a little weight form the steroids. I lost the weight within two months so don't worry about that. I did four rounds every other week. It is interesting to read how often other treatments are administered. I can tell you that if you react to it, shortness of breath, flushing, it may be as simple as really slowing down the administration of the drug and you may not need extra steroids. I know that every time they tried to hurry the treatment I reacted, so if this happens insists that they slow the drip down.
Good luck, remember you are half way home.

Hey Sherry i did the a/c and neve got sick just brain dead felt like it was retarded. then i did one texeter and thought i was going to die!! so they took me to surgery then so i got a break from the chemo ( sad when surgery is a break ) then i did 6 taxatoles i should have done more but my body said no more !! my bones and joints ached so bad and lower back !! my body really said no more i taked to the dr about the pros and cons of stoping after six and he said it was my choice there can be life time side effects u have to live with doing chemo so i stopped now im in radiation. There was a lady there last week who was having prob with her lower back because of the taxole so just listen to your body !!! i was glad i stopped i still hurt...My dr told me most people dont even do all four of the a/c so if u do that u r a champ it was hard and after i did the fouth i knew why !!! i did the taxole once a week. He said no big diff from stoping cause i had did that one texeter. damn no one can ever make chemo sound good it all sucks...but we all do it...and there is a light at the end of the tunnel i can promise u that after a year i finally can see light love and support Wanda

Hi Sherri. I went through 12 treatments of Taxol and Herceptin. I really didn't experience any nausea. As for the joint/bone pain that really bites. I've been done with that regiment since November and am doing fine. Sounds like your moving right along. Live, Love and Laugh often. Regards, Kelly
