should I cut my hair

I want things to be a easy as possible during my recovery. My hair is shoulder lentgh and I usualy flat iron it. Should I cut it now, before surgery.

I think it depends of your treatment, which can change, I left my shoulder lenth shag type cut, I can put it in pony tail to get it out of the way. I had lumpectomy on on may 14, then double mast. on 6/3. My Plas. Surg. said he would not advise me to wash it at home, did not want me to get tubes on chest wet. On 6/7 they drove me to get my hair washed, it was as long as I could go. My reg. stylist charged me 5 buck to get a wash, I dryed and combed it my self and left a tip both times. I am glad I did not cut mine I feel more like the old me when I go out of the house. Everyone is different but if I had to deal with a new way to style my hair it would not have worked at all. Showers and putting on a bra over these expanders and padding this surg. bra is enough stress for me now. I still have a hard time pulling my hair it up in a ponytail or a comb off my neck but I manage. I live in Houston Sub. and I cannot wear my hair down for very long because of the heat and sweat. Just make it easy and simple for your recovery is my advice. Holly

I cut mine short prior to surgery just for easier handling and I thought I'd have to have chemo (which I did not...yeeeraaa). I now wish I had not done it. If you really like your hair as it is and have someone to help you with it (I did not) I'd leave it alone. It may just be easier long and you can slap a bandana or scarf on if you can't fix it. But, then again....going through this you might just feel good about yourself with a new doo!! I'll be thinking of you. bj
