I am posting this on 2 dif. threads so I can get some help today.
I was in tears yesterday morning - calling med. supply, my pharmacy etc.. I found a site and may order a Softtee - camisole (web site) . Some girls get these at hospital release but not me. I am not sure how long I will need and it is tempory for 4-6 weeks, not real prostheses. I may need longer cannot get a fill for 1 month and it is really up in the air because I may need radiations, getting 2nd 3rd Opinions. I dread taking a shower because I cannot get away from pain and discomfort from rubbing bra and stuffing. I have tried 3 bra's all kinds of stuffing/padding. , I want to stay really clean where my stitches are ( I am really scared because of friends infection - she is having expanders removed now because of infections) I have prescription for prostheses, but not sure where to go and what to do. I will have to wait until next week and go down to Medical center in Houston to get prostheses. Please help me save some time and money - I really appreciate all the support you ladies with experience, you have helped me a lot already. I will pass the help on to someone else in the future. Thanks. Holly

Want to leave a comment? Login or Register now!I bought oversized sports bras in the begining and wear loose t shirts and button cotton shirts over them. I found the sports bras at Houston area Wal-Marts in packes of 3 for $9.99. I only had a single side done. Loose clothes will hide the lack of chest for quite a while.
Now that the expander is VERY Full I am wearing loose Mastectomy Bras with padding on the tiny healthy side so I'm not grossly lopsided. Quite a switch, Eh.
Sad to say. The rib muscles on the mastectomy side are always achey and crampy.Bra or no bra. Evrythime things settle out it is time for another fill. Others who are full and settling say it all worked out for them and they feel much better now. I look forward to that. :)
Good luck to you. A lot of the pain and weird feelings do settle out after a while. It does get better.

Whoa, take your time and let yourself heal. The softee camisole may help but so soon it may still cause pressure. I got one 3 weeks after a single mastectomy and no reconstruction and even the light polyester prosthesis felt uncomfortable if I had it on too long ( just the weight of the material resting on my mastectomy site). I felt best going braless with just a very light weight camisole under a button blouse. When I called the provider about my prosthesis, she said not to come for a fitting for at least 8 weeks or longer, and, I was not having radiation. My surgery was on 3/28 and I was only fitted for my prosthesis on 6/5. I still only wear it when I have too, I prefer just a camisole under my top. I am also looking into a "Bosom Buddy" prosthesis form as they are very lightweight. I found the site on line and they will help you figure out the size etc. Please give yourself some time and things will get better. Best Wishes.Holly Whoa, take your time and let yourself heal.
