life expectancy with bone mets

I am currently taking xeloda and am doing well on it. My markers are holding at 197. I have been told that there is nothing else to do for bone mets except when one chem drug stops progression then you go on to another. I also am on monthly treatments of Zometa. Any body have answers????

The life expectancy and especially quality of life stories here are encouraging. My mom has bone and liver mets. She finished 9 rounds of FEC which helped the liver mets but not the bone. So now she has started Abraxane. It's good to know that others have had several quality years on various chemo treatments.

I have a friend with stage IV, she stays on chemo to maintain, she has been doing this for three years so far, and lives a very active and fullfilling life, she was told that she could go on like this for the next 20 yrs. Yes they change her meds as needed, but she is doing so well, she is a school nurse, continues to work full time, she coached a girls softball team this summer, and tutors children in need free of charge. A wonderful and inspirational lady! Never give up, live life to the fulllest, we could get hit by a truck tomorrow.

Hi Sheila,
I can tell you that my aunt was diagnosed stage 4; she had lesions in her bones. She was taking chemo for 12 years. She kept saying, As long as they keep coming up with new meds, I can do this." She died at 70 in 1994 and had a wonderful life, always the life of the party. She is sorely missed. They didn't have many options back then. Stay strong. Jane
