I have no insurance and im trying to go back to school. anyone from texas in here that can recommend a doctor or know of one. i dont have a regular physician and im not sure as to what type of doctor you should see regarding this. can anyone please help!! It may turn out to be nothing but i just want to be on the safe side. Thank you ladies in advance for your words of wisdom!

If you have no insurance here, usually you can get some help either through social services or through clinics that provide free testing and help. Planned Parenthood in New York has a sliding scale. Look online for where to get a free mammography. You need to get checked whenever anything feels different. It may be absolutely nothing, but if it is something--the longer you wait the worse it can get. You don't need to tell anyone in your family yet, but I have personally found that the more I share about my experience with breast cancer, the more I learn and the better I feel. As far as a physician is concerned, most women have their OBGYN request the mammography. My friend, I'm from New York. TerryI found my lump and I put it off for 6 months. I do regret it now. You can go to a planned parenthood office. They have a sliding scale for payment. Thats why I put mine off for so long, no insurance. I am going thru chemo now and I am having a mascectomy in 2 weeks. Don't wait!!! I will pray for you. Terry
Your first step is to get a mammogram. Lumps in the breast are not always breast cancer, but you do need a mammogram to decide. To my knowledge, the National Breast Cancer Foundation does not have any free mammogram programs set up in Corpus, one was just recently set up in Austin, TX. So, I would suggest calling a local hospital to ask where you can get a mammogram or searching on the Internet.
I did a search and found this place http://www.cctexas.com/?fuseaction=main.view&page=313
that does offer free mammograms for those who qualify. They also do all the screening and exams there.
I believe you can see a general doctor at first, who can then refer you to a radiologist or the oncologist if you are diagnosed. Maybe some other women can correct me if I am wrong?
I hope this helps some. Please remember that the sooner you get a mammogram and they can diagnose you, the better. Hi Rachel, Your first step is to get a mammogram.
