support group

Had my support group meeting last night. It was fun! I am so glad that I started going to those meetings. We decided that we are now ready to start mentoring women who are newly diagnosed. That scares me, but that's what I want to do. I'd like to get more into this bc thing, doing what I don't know. Don't even know where to start. Anybody with ideas, feel free to comment.

The american cancer society has a reach to recovery that is wonderful. I too wanted get more involved in the bc thing. So today I took my training for the reach to recovery program. It is great. I had someone from that program call me after my bilat.mas and again before and after my first chemo. acs tries to match the newly diagnosed with someone who has had as close to what they are facing. So when the person called me and I asked what she had I was surprised that she had bilat mast with nodes. at the same time I was very pleased to talk to someone who had already gone through it. I really found my contact very helpful and she listened well. Or the look good feel better program also thur acs. This is about applying makeup and wigs. The most important thing I learned in this program was how to find where to start your eye brow where the arch is and where it should end. Both programs are wonderful. You have to be 1 year treatment free. I will be 1 year treatment free in July 08, but the training class was the only one they were having this year. I hope this helps

Glad you meeting went well! Mentoring women is such a great idea. Hopefully this community will allow you to do some mentoring online. Also, have you thought about starting a fundraising activity in your local area? It can be as simple as a bake sale, but is a great way to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.
