STORY OF MY LIFE

by njw951 on 8/28/2007 at 9:47 am in Survivors
I WAS TOLD IN 1994 THAT I HAD BREAST CANCER. I HAD A RADICAL MASTSECTOMY. STARTED CHEMO SHORTLY AFTER. THEN I DECIDED TO HAVE RECONSTRUCTION. I THEN WENT 41/2 YEARS CANCER FREE. WAS READY TO CELEBRATE MY 5 YEARS CANCER FREE AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD CANCER IN MY OTHER BREAST. SO I STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. HAD MY BREAST REMOVED AND WENT THRU CHEMO AGAIN. THIS WAS IN 1999. IN 2001 I WAS FOUND DEAD ON MY BATHROOM FLOOR. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT CHEMO DESTROYED MY HEART. I HAD TO HAVE A DEFIBULATOR PUT IN TO KEEP MY HEART GOING. HEAR IT IS 2007 AND I HAVE JUST HAD RECONSTRUCTION ON MY RIGHT BREAST. IT HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS SINCE SURGEY AND I STILL HAVE A WAYS TO GO BUT I AM DOING GREAT. I HOPE MY STORY CAN GIVE OTHERS ENCOURAGEMENT TO GO ON. I KNOW IT ISN'T EASY BUT YOU CAN BE A SURVIVOR AS I AM AND WILL BE. I TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME AND LIVE IT AS IT'S MY LAST. THIS KEEPS ME GOING. SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO WRITE AND ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS. I AM VERY OPEN ABOUT ALL THAT'S HAPPENED TO ME. IT IS MY THEROPY. GOD BLESS TO ALL

You sound like an amazingly strong woman to have gone through all of that and survived everything thrown at you. Thank you for sharing your story with us and I hope that it can provide some hope to women who are dealing with a cancer reoccurance. Hope all is well with you.

Nita - You just might be the ultimate survivor. Keep up the good fight. I am new to this world (1 week post op) and heading to the oncologist for my first visit tomorrow. Sometimes none of this seems real. I think being upbeat and positive are the keys to all types of health. Good luck with you continued health and I am sending positive thoughts your way. Julie
