My BFF's journey to beat breast cancer.

by Krissyb on 12/2/2007 at 9:17 pm in Supporters - Friends & Family
I found out the Monday after Thanksgiving that my friend Jan has breast cancer.
She had only found herself the day before Thanksgiving. She waited til the Sat
after to tell her daughters and family. I think I only found out because I called.
Boy am I glad I called. She wasn't doing very well with the news, who would.
I wanted to rush to her side, but she didn't want that, It hurt, but I understood.
I told her I loved her, and she said she would call me later in the week. I know this is bad, but I felt like she had already died. All I could think of was what she would
miss out on. Than I got mad, I could not believe this was happing to her and me,
let along her family and other friends. But I was really thinking how it would effect
me.
Well she called back by Wed of this week, she sounded so much better. We talked
and she told all she was going thru and as much as she knew what was going to
happen in the next couple of weeks.
I talked to her again today, and told her that I wanted to come up (500 Miles)
and help her out. I'm not sure if she wants me but I know I can help. I will go
if she lets me.

I quess it all depends on what she will be going through. My friends know I need the most support the day before my chemo treatments. She is just beginning, so that little care package might be nice. I found i needed unsented lotions, unsented deoturant, ivory soap, warm jammies and slippers, biotene mouthwash, and good books. Just some suggestions. I am not use to being home all the time now, I get creative somedays, and some days I just feel yucky!
Let us know how she is doing, and give her this website when she feels like writing.
Love and support...Cathie

Thankyou for your comments. It helps, I will keep in touch with cards and calls.
There is 500 miles between us but that doesn't matter. What are the treatments like, and how can I help her get thru them when the times are tuff? I don't want
her to give up on hershelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My best friend was with me the night I found out, the day of surgery too. She lives close which is nice. I just am thankful that she gives me a call to check up on me. Send her a little card each week to send your support. People drop you after a week or so, so having a best friend remember after that is wonderful. She may need your help if she has surgery or has treatments. Your support will always be appreciated.
