What's Normal???

by pam j on 2/1/2008 at 9:31 am in Treatment
I had my mastectomy on the left almost 3 weeks ago. I have been through chem with not much trouble but the recovery from this surgery is not going so well. Really wish I knew what is normal and what is not. Went to my surgon 5 days ago to get the drain and staples out. He said all looks really good. I am just very umcomfortable. Things are swollen, sore, and tender all the time. The area at the middle of the chest is swollen and much of the chest is tight and hard. The area under the arm is very sore and tender. Will this ever go away. They did remove 14 lymph nodes also. Am very much struggling with this and could use some answers and reassurance.

I had a double mastectomy on Jan. 22 and had 28 nodes removed. I'm tight and still sore, also,.but,.not too bad. It does gradually get better. Hang in there. :)

You sound like me. I had 15 nodes plus my left breast removed and I thought I was going to die. I asked my Dr. to set me up with some physical therapy and I do feel better. My surgery was 3 months ago and I still have numbness and a little pain but exercise is the best thing to do. Just don"t overdo it right now. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let me know how you are doing. God Bless You!

Hon..You just had major surgery. You will be sore for a bit. Since they took nodes out, your arm will be sore. They should have given you excerises to do to loosen up or stretch that side. Did they give you any pain pills? You needn't be uncomfortable.
Always tell your team how you feel, they can help!
Support and hugsss
