I just got diagnosed with breast cancer after petscans and other test they figured out that its a posibility that its spreading. I was told that i have to do chemo and posible radiation. I was also told that i might have to loose my left breast also..My surgeon wants me to wait to have my reconstruction. But he never gave me a medical reason why. What should i expect This is all new to me and im really lost.. it has only been 2 weeks since i was diagnosed and ive already seen the medical and radiation docs and i also have met with the surgen i still have to see the plastic surgen. What should i expect..I dont know what kind of chemo or radiations im going to have.. Im having a full masectomy done on my right breast.. Where should i start or what questions should i ask? Can anyone help?

I know the whirlwind you are in...I am 3 weeks post op, found out I had breast cancer 10 days prior to that on Feb 1st. I got on the computer and looked up every word on my pathology report and made a list of questions for the doctor. What did your path. report say you were diagnosed with? That is the first step. If you are not comfortable with any of your doctors, change them. This is a sensitive time and you need to feel comfortable with all your doctors, they are going to be present in your life for quite some time and it isn't like you can just stop in the middle of a surgery or reconstruction or chemo or radiation and locate someone else. Find a local source or cancer group and get referrals. You must trust them. If you need some help diagnosing your pathology reports, I can help you or there are so many women here that can too. I chose to have a double mastectomy even though my biopsy on my left breast was negative and I am glad I did...I did have early cancer in the left as well, so I was just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
Feel free to contact me for help. I had lots during my 10 days prior and these past few weeks during recovery.
Good luck and you will get through it.

Everyone is different. Each treatment is differant. You have to ask the physicians question.....if they do not give you the time you need...then maybe you need to find one that will. Best of all you have found the right web-site to get support and answers from women just like you. It is scarry and trust me.......the tornado you are in right now will one day seem like a dream.......Dorothy will find her way back to Kansas!!!!! This book really helped me going through mine (which is really differant from yours). "Breast Cancer - The Complete Guide" written by physicians in laymans terms for the most part. It was very helpful. Most importantly listen to women who have gone through it, listen to your heart, and keep your attitude positive.
