I got my first bill for my medication before Chemo. Now it came in the mail (Dr. ordered). It was a packet of 3 pills for nausea. Remember the 3 pill part. The bill was for $650.00. Did everyones nausea meds cost that much? Thats 2 car payments!!!!!
Ok I have insurance but that seems crazy...I saw a show about medical pot that was in the $40.00 range! But thats illegal in my state.

I have a lot to say about the exorbitant costs of cancer treatment! The one Neulasta injection I received on the days following chemotherapy cost $3,300 each! In 2007 I received chemotherapy with a different oncologist who charged between $8000 and $12,000 per treatment, depending on what I was getting. I changed to a new oncologist in January 2008 (necessary for health insurance referral requirements), and this oncology clinic charges $22,000 (yes, that's $22 thousand dollars!) for ONE IV BAG! I do not understand how they can even justify that! I am inquiring with the provider now. At these rates, I will use up my lifetime maximum in health insurance. I am currently taking Tamoxifen at a cost of $5 coinsurance per month. My oncologist actually wanted to put me on an aromatase inhibitor, but since there are no generics available, the aromatase inhibitor would cost $500 per month, which would be $250 out of pocket for me. With all the other expenses, that would be cost prohibitive for me. I feel lucky to be able to afford the Tamoxifen, but it has a greater risk of causing blood clots, which is an additional concern.

Yes, it is very expensive! My 3 pills cost about $300. I have insurance also, but my prescription deductable is $700, so I had to pay out of pocket for the first couple ones. My doctor's office was great too, one of the nurses saw that I had to pay out of pocket and gave me three free samples, which saved me a ton of money. Just wait until you see how much the Neulasta shot costs!
