what can I expect at my first oncology appt?

by Debb on 2/18/2008 at 9:43 pmin category Treatment
My first oncology appointment is not for another month. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I have a diagnosis of DCIS with high risk. I am also looking into having the BRCA test done. Can anyone tell me their questions and concerns to prepare me for that first appointment?

I called the American Cancer Society, and they sent me a list of questions to ask the oncologist. Also the free breast care book was great. Everything I was confused about at first was answered.
The oncologist just asked about me, my family history, and took blood work. She also discussed my treatment, and my longevity. Meaning the chances of recurrance or not depending I the treatment I choose. And yes she let me choose my treatment. I had invasive DCIS, but had a long history of family cancer. She made suggestions but i was going full force with this! The oncologist is just one part of your team.....
