Taxotere side effects

by Jeanette51 on 2/23/2008 at 7:27 amin category Treatment
Has anyone experienced any muscle aches or joint pain with Taxotere? I finished chemo the end of January and am going in for surgery this week. My legs seem to ache all of the time. It feels like it is in the muscle. My oncologist says it is from the taxotere....one month later? Sometimes my body feels like it has been hit with a Mack truck. Is this normal and how long does it take to go away? Any suggestions? Maybe if I get my fat @#$ moving more and lose the weight I gained from chemo, it would help???? hahaha

What we have to go through!!!!

Jeanette, I finished Taxotere and cytoxin the end of May 2007. I think the worst part of the chemo was the joint pain. The best thing that helped me was Garcinia Mangosteen. You can get it at a health food store. I stated taking it when I was done with chemo and radiation. Even 9 months later, I still have joint pain, but the mangosteen really helps. I also make myself try to walk a little everyday. There are days it is not easy. I get up and get it done the first thing in the morning so it is the first priority. Getting up at 5:00 a.m. to do it is not thrilling but it seems to help. Good Luck to you.

jeanette, I finished my taxol treatment in Oct. the neuropathy in my hands has not gotten any better, it actually feels worse. I have been on neurontin since november and it doesn't seem to help. I had it in my feet also, but that does feel better. I remember feeling like I was hit by a truck after each treatment. I couldn't walk and just sat and cried from the pain. luckily, that went away about a month after treatment. I see a neurologist soon for my hands. I hope he can help as I am getting tired of the pain and feeling like its all in my head. Hang in there, I hope you feel better soon.

Jeanette, I just finished with Taxol which is very similar and the side effects listed for it also included muscle aches and or temporary neuropathy. I have not experienced anything but thought I would let you know that my oncologist also mentioned the side effects. If you keep having problems I would definitely keep track of the symptoms and report them to both your primary and your oncologist. Ruthie

Hi Jeanette,
I'm also receiving Taxotere and my 5th chemo cycle was last week and all of a sudden I can hardly walk. I have extreme muscle and joint pain from the hips down. It feels like my muscles are too tight. My oncologist said it gets worse near the end of my chemo treatments (I have one more to go), but it doesn't seem to be getting any better at all. I too thought of getting my fat @#$%% moving more, but like my mom told me "take it easy, and move when you feel better." Mom knows best, and I always take her advice.
After you finished your chemo did you feel depressed? I'm usually a very upbeat, funny person but lately I've been feeling a little blue. I have it in my mind that when the chemo ends the cancer will start growing back. I know that's sounds crazy, but the thought is floating around inside my head. I just have to shake these negative thoughts away. I'm getting my tissue expanders replaced with my silcone boobs next month and then I'm off on a cancer free cruise with my family and friends. I hope this leg pain is gone by then........I've read that after treatment ends the side effects linger for a few months. Who knows.. everyone reacts differently. I hope I'm one of the few that feels 100%% after that last chemo!!!

Hope you feel better soon !

I took TAXOL, which may be similar. I had bone and joint pain that put me in bed one day a week, of the next week afterwards. I had neuopathy for quite a while and I felt poisoned the entire time. I did ok, was able to function fairly normally...layed around a lot and got waited on, which was nice! These symptoms do go away.
