March 2006 I had my yearly mammogram. Two weeks later Promedica (where I had the mammogram) called to tell me I needed to have another one, because something showed that wasn't there the year begfore. I had another mammogram and then an ultra sound on the same day. The radiologist that read the mammogram and ultra sound stated he thought I should have a stariotacttic biopsy. The next day I received a call from my gyno that ordered the mammogram and they referred me to a breast specialist. I went to the breast specialist two weeks later and she scheduled a biopsy the next week. She said that it did not look like cancer. After the biopsy, she still said that she didnot think it was cancer, but she would call in a few days (this was on a Wednesday). One the following Monday, May 1, 2006, I received a message at work that she had called. I called her back and she told me that it was cancer. We an appointment for the following Thursday to discuss my options. We decided that since it was small and found early, that a lumpectomy would be beneficial. On Tuesday, May 16, 2006 I had a right breast lumpectomy with lymphnode dissection, with the removal of 25 lymphnodes, 1 involved cancer. The third of June I began mammosite radiation twice a day for ten days. When this was completed, I returned to work. The end of June 2006 I began six chemo treatments every three weeks. I continued to work during the treaatments. The treatments ended October 13, 2006. I went through the treatments with relative ease. The most problem I had was fatigue. I tried to keep my schedule as normal as possible. God was with me throughout the diagnosis and treatment. I had peace that everything was going to be ok. My husband, family and freinds were very supportive and still are. I have developed lymphedema in my right hand.
