Diagnosed 8/20/07

I will have a mastectomy on September 4 and will also have the reconstruction of the breast begin on the same day.
I had noticed a lump in my breast on and off for many years. Last August it showed up again and I had a mammogram and sonogram, bother were negative. In June after traveling to Italy and the Mediterranean, I did a self exam and noticed that the lump has gotten bigger; since then I have had every test possible and the final conclusion is that I have a cancerous cyst that has spread and therefore the breast has to be removed, due to the size. I don't know what the next step will be until the surgery and further test are done.
I have moments of depression (short moments), I keep myself upbeat and I am determined to beat this with every ounce in me. I have very supportive family and friends that call daily and help to keep my spirits high. I also know that first and foremost that my faith will see me through this time. I will not let fear take over me and keep me from fighting the good fight.

Hi LueBrown. I just had a mastectomy a week and a half ago. I cannot have reconstruction until I finish with chemotherapy in about 6-8 months. Believe me, I know how scared you are. I noticed a lump in myself when I was 28 years old. I had a lumpectomy and my lymph nodes removed and here it is 12 years later and it came back. We have to fight this horrible disease. You have to keep your spirits high and realize that after you have reconstruction, you will look even better,. I wish you good luck. I will pray for you. Drink plenty of liquids before you go in for surgery. It makes for an easier recovery.
