My mother bc turn out to be stage IV. She had a simple mas. last Thursday. The pains that she is suffering because of her bc on her bone are sometime unbearable. I am having a real hard time dealing with my mom condition. I have lost all joy of life. I do not want my mom to suffer but she is. Next, Tuesday she go back to the hospital and the doctor will take it from there. I know for a fact she will need more surgery for lymph nods. I am so upset....

I hear you, My Mom was told in 2003 that she had a year to live, she had Breast Cancer in 1990 and had a total modified radicial mastectomy then a year later she had uterine cancer had surgery for that then nothing until 2003 when the surgeon cracked open her chest to do Cardiac Surgery for a valve replacement and found Cancer in her whole chest cavity an inch from her heart so, they put her on Arimidex and 4 months later her Cancer all disappeared even into her bone it was gone. Until Now, It came back in January and her Oncologist is superb up to date so she tried her on a couple aromatase inhibitors hoping it would work like the Arimidex did but they failed she has an aggressive cancer that is estrogen receptive but hercept neg so now they just started her on xeloda 500mg 3 pills twice a day which is a new chemo pill for Metastasic breast cancer and now we wait and see... This is the hardest, but if there is one thing that you get out of this story even though it is not completely upbeat is don't lose Hope it is all any of us have and it is most poweriful tool to cope and even when there seems like there is not hope left We will still hope and you know what for? The strength from God to help our Mothers thru what ever comes next. So keep the faith or energy or whatever keeps you pushing on thru life because either way you will do your Mother proud that you are strong enough to endur whatever life throws at you. God Bless.

My heart goes out to you... I know exactly what you are going through...I was with my mother every day of her breast cancer journey. She was a very young 85, and I was 45 when she was diagnosed. Your mother's oncologist should be doing EVERYTHING possible to relieve her pain by trying various painkillers; is he/she doing so? There is a large range of effective drugs for pain of all types and severity. It may take time, in consultation with her doctor, to establish the drug or drug combination that is right...keep pushing until they find the right one. Also, warm moist heat also helps to take the edge off some pain types. YOU are a source of strength, joy and hope for you mother. Be there for her...show her and tell her you love her..every day...talk with her about her feelings, and don't be afraid to discuss yours with her..pray for comfort and healing. Talk about normal things...take the focus off her pain. Is there someone you are close with to help you deal with your own feelings? I will keep you in my thought and prayers. Please let me know if I can help you in any way...if you need someone to talk with, I'm here.

Don't be discouraged, Mary. It is so important to still find happiness although your mom is suffering - you are her light right now and it's so important to be there for her. Always remember to smile and laugh, even when things seem most difficult. We're all here for you too :)

luvumom,

It sounds like the doctors are really moving though as far as speed with your mom. My mom was diagnosed June 8, 2007 and didn't start her first chemo until this last Monday. One month and one day after her diagnosis. That was a horrible wait and I have to say the most horrifying month of my life! Hang in there, and althugh it seems impossible, for your family and for your mom, try to laugh.

Talk to ya soon,
Brittany :)
