Im 48 years old last year i was diagnosed w/ ductal carcinoma. my mom didnt have breast cancer but her sister did .Whats the chances that my 26 yr old daughter would get it? plus my granddaughter ?
I can tell you all that I went through the testing and I am BRCA1 positive and now my sister, brother and daughter are getting tested. We would rather know then not! There was really no question on whether I was positive or not but my insurance paid all of it. My daughter wants to know so she can be aware of how and what may happen in her future, she knows she will be watched closely anyway but this way she can have the # of children she wants and then have a hysto if she is positive. I guess I am too organized and want to know as much of my future as I can! But my whole family feels better knowing then not! But each their own.......... I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. My first concern was for my 20 year old daughter and 35 year old sister. Last week I met with a certified genetic councelor through my hospital. I was informed that the tests would be about $3000.00 and that my insurance would cover 80%. After the meeting I decided not to go thru the tests. The reason was this..... no matter what the test said, we were going to be very proactive in my family's health. Whether it was positive or negative, my sister had a mamogram last week, my daughter will have one by the age of 30. I got a 4 page reprort on the chances of me passing it on. It was very technical and to tell you the truth i just didn't want to go thru any more that I have. Be proactive and assume that you have passed it on. I pray for your speedy recovery and the health of your family!I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. My first concern was for my 20 year old daughter and 35 year old sister. I wonder about the same. I am the 1st in my family that I know of . What chances do my daughter and 2 granddaughters have or even my son? I pray feveriously that they don't.I wonder about the same.
