Dallas Cancer Survivors Plaza - A Tribute to Life
on 9/6/2007 at 9:18 pm in
InspirationalI had lunch with my mother today and we walked over to the Richard & Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Plaza in Downtown Dallas. My mother has been talking about bringing me here for the past few weeks and we finally made it.
The first thing I saw when we walked up, was a massive granite ball (5000 lbs heavy) which sat on top of some sort of water fountain. According to the plaque nearby, the ball is in constant motion and visitors can use their hands to influence the direction it moves. As I continued to read the plaque, the giant ball made a lot more sense of why it was placed in the cancer survivors park. The plaque stated:
"This 5000 pound granite ball is symbolic of cancer. It is a huge mass constantly in motion. Cancer is a huge mass constantly in motion. With personal intervention, possibly the direction of that motion can be changed."
This was very symbolic to me. At first, "personal intervention" seemed to represent medicine, but then it took a whole new meaning when I started to think about MyNBCF and how much community can be considered an intervention. With the help of medicine, hope, faith, family and friends, the direction of cancer can lead to a tribute to life.
