Me again

by stefi on 5/14/2008 at 10:05 amin category Early Detection
I called my doctor's office to find out exactly what to expect and what would be done at my appointment for my biopsy and they told me that it was just a consult and they would schedule the biopsy at that time. So more waiting.

I was reading my mammography report and basically it said (in short) that a solid non calcified lesion was found in my right breast that needed to be biopsied. Anybody know what that means? Should I be worried?

Try not to worry until you have specific information. And try not to read anything on the internet until you have specifics about you - there are lots of scary things out there and unless you're really good at fighting away fear, it may be best to cut back on the reading until you have more information. It is quite a long process to find out exactly what type of condition you have - biopsy is just the first step. It will confirm or deny whether it is cancer but won't give you the stage, final tumor size, etc. That will come after surgery, which may be a few more weeks down the road. Just breath and what feels like eternity will pass very quickly - promise.

I know how you feel. I also wanted to know straight on what I would be facing. I found that it was easier for me to handle when I did not anticipate the worst. You have no idea what a calcified lesion is and neither do I. If you'd really like to know make sure you ask the doctor. They will probably give you a general answer but at least it's an answer. Don't add any more to it. They need to biopsy it because they don't know what's going on with it. Do not give this lesion more than is required. Don't let negative thoughts depress you. You may be building the "size" of this thing to be bigger than it actually is. Like the monster under the bed, turn on the light and keep on going. Be strong and find something to laugh at. Look at a Tyler Perry video. It's guaranteed laughter. It helped me. Be around people a lot, they wont let you fall into self pity. Pray. God will certainly see you through.

I think you just have to wait for the pathology report from the biopsy when it is taken. Any guesses to this point would just be speculation. The inportant thing to focus on is that you are going to be able to schedule the biopsy, and the pathology report from the biopsy will give you and the doctors concrete information about what is going on and what needs to be done about it. It is probably humanly impossible not to worry. Just try to take one day at a time, find some humor everyday, reach out to your family, friends and faith community for support. Stay strong and as calm as you can. Sending Prayers and thoughts to you.
