What Is Breast Cancer?

by TaylorC on 5/9/2007 at 12:32 pmin category Survivors
Breast Cancer is caused by cells that start to grow rapidly and invade nearby tissues. When large collections of these tissue gather, they are called tumors, but not all tumors can spread and are therefore not considered cancerous.

Breast cancer tissues usually come from the ducts or glands, but any types of tissue in the breast can form cancer. It is the most common malignancy affecting women in North American and Europe and every woman is at risk. Even if you do not have a family history of breast cancer, you are still at risk. So it is incredibly important to screen for tumors with mammograms, especially since it can take months to years for a tumor to get large enough to feel in the breast.

If you want to know a little more about breast cancer, the best site I found to browse through is: http://www.beyondtheshock.com/english/interactive.html There is an interactive display of what breast cancer is, the different types, the different stages, and the different types of treatment available. The thurough descriptions make it so if you are ever confused about anything breast cancer related, this gives quite a few answers. I recommend everyone check it out if you are confused, or just for some more information on what breast cancer is, and possibly the next steps to take after someone finds out they have it.
