I am going in for my lumpectomy on Friday and have to admit I am a bit nervous. Not so much about the surgery itself, but about what the results of the surgery and node biopsy will find. My lump was found very early so there is a good chance it has not spread, but can anyone really say they aren't worried? I know I will need radiation treatments, but I do pray there will be no chemo. If there is- I will cope, after all God only gives us what we can handle right? But still---one can hope for the easier road...

You would not be normal if you were not worried.....I went through the same thing back in August 07; however, margins were not clear and I had two nodes test positive. They suggested chemo first before going back in; hoping you do not have to go down that road; however, if you do, you will get through it...the key is to stay positive! I had bilateral mastectomy 2/26 (my choice....my mother died from this horrible disease) and pathology came back clear....THE CHEMO DID WORK!!! You have to stay strong and have faith! I don't know how many layers of nodes are being taken out. Last visit to the surgeon the HER 2 analysis was not back. I do have negative receptors though and my numbers were at zero so they know it is aggressive. Mine is also invasive ductal and the tumor is only slightly over 1 cm

I was diagnosed by biopsy on 3/11/08 with invasive ductal carcinoma of my left breast, the tumor was only 1.2cm and a grade 1/slow growing so I opted for a lumpectomy and sentinal node biopsy. These were on 3/19, only one sentinal node was tested which was negative but the pathology report from this surgery did not have clear margins and I was told a further lumpectomy would compromise the circulation in the breast so I had surgery the third time 3/28 for a mastectomy. This pathology did show clear margins. I am ER and PR positive, HER-2 negative. I will be having a CT scan of chest and abdomen this Friday and a MRI of the brain 4/14 to complete staging before seeing an oncologist. I have one concerns which I am sure the oncologist will discuss and that is was one node enough to be sure? On a practical point, I still have the drainage tube in and have two areas still filled with fluid...any suggestions as to how to help these area drain?

We all hope but what i have said through the whole thing is ( If God takes us there he will get us through it) i was diagnosed in june of 2007 ...5 chemo then surgery then 6 chemo now on to raditation i thank God every day but it has been hell. How many layers of nods are they taking out ? and are u estrogen + or hur2+ do u know love and support wanda
