Breast Cancer Connections
Founded in 1993 by a breast cancer patient and her dedicated surgeon, Breast Cancer Connections (BCC) is a unique and vital resource in the Bay Area which provides early detection education, treatment support, and a community for breast cancer survivors. Funding from the National Breast Cancer Foundation has enabled BCC to increase its screening and diagnostic services for at-risk women by 43% and provide more than 35 programs free of charge to the community. BCC addresses the educational, emotional, and practical needs of people touched by breast cancer by offering a variety of support groups, workshops, and classes such as nutrition and cooking.
"Breast Cancer Connections' Early Detection Program is truly a life-saver for many women and men in this community. Most of the clients we serve are struggling financially. So, when faced with a health issue they will often choose to ignore the issue ... the main reason is usually the inability to pay for medical care. With generous supporters like NBCF we were able to make a difference not only in the lives of our clients, but for their families as well."
