Genesis HealthCare System/Genesis HealthCare Foundation
Genesis HealthCare System is the largest health care provider in its six-county region of southeastern Ohio. Its commitment to patient safety and experience, clinical quality, and financial stability has been recognized by Thomson Reuters, which named Genesis one of the nation’s top 100 hospitals in 2011. With funding from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Genesis is able to provide a Breast Nurse Navigator (BNN) who works with patients and physicians to coordinate resources from the time of diagnosis through recovery. By facilitating a plan of care for breast patients, the BNN ensures timely access to services, appropriate breast cancer therapy, and is able to provide tailored educational materials and emotional support to each patient.
"Since we began receiving the National Breast Cancer Foundation grant funding, we have been able to provide digital screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, and ultrasounds to women who have no health insurance or the financial means to provide these services for themselves. Through this grant, our organization is able to provide these services to these women at no cost to them."
