Nevada Health Center's Mammovan
The Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan is a mobile mammography van that travels to underserved areas of the state providing women with comprehensive breast health screening services. National Breast Cancer Foundation funds are given directly to the Mammovan which helps break down the barriers women sometimes face in receiving these potentially life-saving services. Common barriers include lack of education, cultural beliefs, language difficulties, and lack of insurance. The Mammovan team members, many of whom are fluent in Spanish, work directly with community residents who take a sister-to-sister approach in encouraging their friends and family members to schedule time for a mammogram. Every Mammovan patient is informed of her results immediately and any needed follow-up services, such as ultrasound and biopsy, are often scheduled the same day.
"The Mammovan travels through the state of Nevada providing mammograms to geographically isolated and uninsured women. The community out-reach staff also spends a lot of time educating women regarding the importance of annual clinical breast exams and mammograms. Donations from community-minded foundations like yours are helping to make the women in Nevada healthier."
