Our Lady of Fatima Hospital
Founded in 1954 by the Diocese of Providence, Our Lady of Fatima Hospital is a nonprofit, general acute care facility and a division of St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island, an integrated system of Catholic health care providers. It operates the state’s only hospital-based school of nursing, and runs schools of medical technology, cyto-technology and histo-technology. With help from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the hospital has launched a patient navigator program to increase access to breast health programs for underserved women. The patient navigator has been instrumental in reducing the cultural and financial barriers that restrict many women in the community from accessing potentially life-saving breast health screenings.
"Thanks to this program, women who have not had potentially lifesaving screenings and care are now able to access it. Women shouldn’t wait for a symptom to arise before seeking care. Early detection is the best way to improve survival rates."
