The Breast Cancer Program at Froedtert
Since 1980, Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin have been part of a critical initiative to improve the health of the Milwaukee community. Nationally ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the United States, Froedtert was most recently listed in a total of 12 specialty areas in U.S. News & World Report's 2011-12 "Best Hospitals" list. The Breast Cancer Program at Froedtert offers a unique approach to cancer care, grouping oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and plastic surgeons who collaborate to create an individualized treatment plan for each patient. Since partnering with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Froedtert team has been able to extend its services and provide valuable information to Milwaukee's underserved inner city. As a result of the team's hard work this year, 1069 women have been reached through the breast education program, and more than 200 women received mammograms that would otherwise have gone without.
"The grant from the NBCF has allowed us to look more closely at a population that we have not been able to offer resources to for screening mammography. We have provided transportation support, spiritual, and emotional support for each woman scheduled."
