My Plates Releases Official NBCF License Plate

05/ 3/2010

10% of the price of each plate goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, based in Frisco, Texas.  You can personalize and order the plates at www.myplates.com.

The two plate designs have a pink background covered with pink breast cancer awareness ribbons. Through public comment, the designs received some of the highest approval ratings Texans have ever given.

For years, breast cancer survivors in Texas and those involved in awareness and research about breast cancer have asked, watched, and waited for this plate.  They watched as other states got pink ribbon plates on the roads, like: AL, AZ, AR, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MO, MS, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, TN, and VA.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation funds free mammograms for Texas women without health insurance.  Though NBCF is a national organization, proceeds from the plates will stay in Texas, primarily through grants to clinics in Houston and Austin (names and locations listed below).

Breast Cancer Awareness plates are available for cars, motorcycles, trailers, RVs, and buses. You can give them as a gift—Mother’s Day is Sunday!  About three weeks after you order, the plate arrives at a county tax assessor’s office for pick up.  Plates start at $55 a year.  The price per year goes down if you buy the plate for a 5 or 10-year term.  Personalization is an additional cost.

Create your plate at www.myplates.com. You can also call My Plates at 1-888-7MY-PLAT(ES), Monday to Friday 8a-6p.

BACKGROUND:
The Texas state legislature is the first in the U.S. to order the hire of a private vendor to create, market, and sell new license plate designs as a way to raise money for the state.  The program has been popular because it costs taxpayers nothing, makes $25M for the state, and offers all Texans a fun choice in customizing their cars.  In August 2009, TxDOT awarded the contract to operate the My Plates program to a joint venture between Etech, Inc. of Nacogdoches (www.etechinc.com) and Pinnacle Technical Resources of Dallas (www.pinnacle1.com).  My Plates is a contracted vendor with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV).

My Plates designs and markets new specialty license plates as a vendor for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. My Plates’ goal is to create a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship designed to maximize revenues for the state through the sale of My Plates specialty plates. My Plates is dedicated to providing Texans with greater choices in specialty plate designs, a unique way to add personality to your vehicle, and unmatched customer service. My Plates is a joint venture of Etech, Inc. of Nacogdoches (www.etechinc.com) and Pinnacle Technical Resources of Dallas (www.pinnacle1.com), www.myplates.com

TxDMV is responsible for the registration, titling and credentialing of personal and commercial vehicles. It also licenses vehicle dealers and issues operating authority for commercial motor vehicles and buses. TxDMV also is home to the Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority (ABTPA), which awards grants to law enforcement agencies to reduce auto theft and increase public awareness and education. The National Breast Cancer Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable foundation headquartered in Frisco, Texas, just north of Dallas. The Foundation exists to save lives by providing access to free and low-cost mammograms for those with limited resources, increased awareness through continuing education programs and online community support programs. The Foundation also supports cancer research, primarily through a relationship with The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and research programs at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.  www.nationalbreastcancer.org.
