Project Mammogram, the primary program of the Northeast Hospital Foundation, exists to decrease the incidence of late-stage breast cancer diagnosis through outreach, education, preventative screenings, diagnostics, and other breast services. Project Mammogram provides these lifesaving services free to the patient based on income (at or under 200% of the poverty level), residing within the defined 26-zip code service area (encompassing the Northeast quadrant of Houston- East Montgomery County, Northeast Harris County and East Liberty County), and being underinsured or uninsured. Project Mammogram partners with Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital and is housed within their medical facility. To ensure the continuum of care, if cancer is detected, Project Mammogram patients are navigated into treatment through a partnership with The Rose – the Northeast Hospital Foundation reimburses The Rose for 100% of the testing services, surgeries, and navigation services, not taking away from the funding The Rose needs to serve their patient population. Project Mammogram patient assistance currently consists of transportation assistance (gas cards) and food assistance (gift card for one meal) as well as the gift of a support system to walk alongside them. Project Mammogram saves lives and provides peace of mind to many more who otherwise would not have access to these services.
“I am honored to be able to help women who are in need of these life-saving screening and diagnostic early detection of breast cancer services. I put myself in their shoes because I know how it feels to work somewhere where insurance is not provided or it costs too much to afford. I am so humbled by the number of women we have helped and I hope to reach many more.” — Silvia Torres, NRCMA, Project Mammogram Coordinator
Donations are always appreciated, but there are lots of great ways to get involved.
