Mammography Patient Navigation

Established in 1999, the Moffitt Program for Outreach, Wellness, Education and Resources (M-POWER) was created to empower community members to take an active role in preventing disease and maintaining overall health. In 2020, M-POWER was transitioned to the Office of Community Outreach, Education and Equity (COEE) to centralize outreach efforts at Moffitt and provide the community with outreach and health education in the areas of cancer prevention, early detection, and screening. Participants of our programs learn about resources they can share among their families and friends. Through outreach, educational workshops and linking community members to free and/or low-cost screening services, COEE community outreach workers collaborate with faith based and secular partners to minimize health disparities in the Tampa Bay area. We work with those individuals needing care beyond screening to provide access to diagnosis and treatment throughout the continuum of care.

“In the Tampa Bay region we have a significant population of women who lack health insurance and struggle to access basic cancer screening services. Through our partnership with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, we have been able to serve thousands of women, ensuring they receive annual mammograms. At Moffitt our mission is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer, and our team members work tirelessly each day to deliver on this promise to everyone in our community.” — Kenisha Avery, MPH, COEE Manager
