The University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is recognized for being New Mexico’s only Academic Medical Center is accredited by the Joint Commission. The mammogram clinic is located at the University Hospital Outpatient Surgery and Imaging Service building and is one of the largest mammogram providers in the state. Screening and diagnostic mammograms, and breast ultrasounds are provided for uninsured and underinsured women thanks to a grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Patients can typically be seen within the same week that the clinic is called for an appointment.
“The NBCF Program is a very important resource for uninsured women in the state of New Mexico. While the Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (BCC) for our state remains a strong force in prevention and early detection of breast cancer, the funds for the BCC program were cut again this year. Since the University of New Mexico Hospital receives only one sum of money for both diagnostic and screening services, and is the largest site for diagnostic services for women in the state, screening services under the BCC Program had to be cut this year. Because of our NBCF grant, uninsured women still received their screening mammograms.” – Wendy L. Hine, Social Work Case Manager II
Donations are always appreciated, but there are lots of great ways to get involved.
