December 8th –  Sunbelt Bakery® has made a donation of $50,000 to National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® (NBCF) in support of the foundation’s mission to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer. With this donation, NBCF and Sunbelt Bakery celebrate the 10th consecutive year of partnership.

“With the frequency of 1 in 8 women being diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, this disease affects both our employee families and customer families far too often.  Sunbelt Bakery is proud to donate to NBCF annually in support of the ongoing research to find a cure for this disease.  We feature the pink ribbon on the front of packages of our granola bars and fruit and grain bars during October.  The ribbon is a symbol of help and hope to increase breast cancer awareness.  We educate consumers about NBCF on our cartons and through our social media channels, providing information on how they can support this great cause and learn more about the heartfelt work NBCF does for women nationwide,” said Tara Wiese, Sunbelt Bakery brand manager.

Sunbelt Bakery snacks are produced by McKee Foods Corporation, a family owned company.  Sunbelt Bakery established its partnership with NBCF in October 2010, when it launched its first campaign for the foundation through sales of Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bars. NBCF’s logo has prominently been displayed on select Sunbelt Bakery Granola Bar boxes since that first campaign, with donations to NBCF.

National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 34.  At the time of her diagnosis, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options.  After her treatment, Janelle committed to helping women by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Breast cancer is one of the leading health crises for women in the United States. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. There is currently no known cure for breast cancer, and its early diagnosis is critical to survival.

“NBCF is grateful for the 10 years of partnership with Sunbelt Bakery and for their long-term commitment to our mission of Helping Women Now,” said Janelle Hail, NBCF founder & CEO. “Their generous cumulative support hit the $500,000 mark this year which has enabled us to provide life-changing programs to thousands of women affected by breast cancer across the country.”
