Latinas in the United States face unique barriers to breast care, including limited access to quality care, language barriers, and cultural stigma surrounding breast health. These barriers often contribute to later diagnoses and higher breast cancer mortality rates in Latinas.

The mission of the Latina Initiative is to address barriers to care by raising awareness, providing breast health education in Spanish, and increasing breast cancer screening rates for Latinas.

How NBCF supports Latina communities

The Latina Initiative provides help and inspires hope to those affected by breast cancer in the U.S. through:

  • Bilingual education & awareness: NBCF provides culturally relevant educational materials, including brochures, online educational content, and public service announcements in Spanish and English, reaching more communities with life-saving resources and information.
  • Community outreach & health events: Through in-person community health events, NBCF empowers women by providing breast health education, breast self-exam demonstrations, and information on how to access free and low-cost screening and mammogram services.
  • Direct patient support: NBCF offers free virtual patient navigation services in Spanish and English to help guide women through the complex cancer care system.
