Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
The Medical Student Run Clinic (MSRC) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) El Paso is a student-led, volunteer project started in 2013 out of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine - the only medical school on the U.S.-Mexico border. Twice a week, students and physicians volunteer their time, talent, and expertise to the clinic - which operates out of the Sparks Community Center in the far east “colonias” of the city. Thanks to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Medical Student Run Clinic offers mammogram screenings and diagnostic testing free of cost to the community. The populations seen at the clinic are primarily Hispanic, low–income, underserved patients who may not otherwise be able to afford care or who lack the transportation necessary to reach a clinic. Aside from mammograms, the clinic also offers general check–ups, pap smears, and HIV screenings, as well as educational materials for patients to share with friends and family.
