Alabama Department of Health

The mission of the Alabama Department of Health (ADPH) is to provide caring, high quality and professional services for the improvement and protection of the public’s health, regardless of social circumstances or the ability to pay. ADPH founded the Alabama Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (ABCCEDP) in 1996, and with the help of a grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, provided screenings to over 10,000 women last year.

"Over the past several years the National Breast Cancer foundation has provided funds to the Alabama Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program to help underserved women receive mammograms. Through this Foundation, the program is able to ensure women age 40-49 with no insurance and a low income receive free breast cancer screening services."

Thomas M. Miller, M.D., Assistant State Health Officer of ADPH
